Appliances
The manufacturers warrant the appliances that have been installed in your new home. Before using any new appliances, please read the instruction manuals.
If an electrical appliance fails to operate, check to see if the appropriate breaker switch is ON. If the breaker is ON, the problem will be in the appliance and not in the electrical system of your home. If the breaker switch has been tripped to the OFF position, you should contact Becker Communities Customer Service Department during the warranty period, and an electrical contractor thereafter.
If you have gas appliances and you smell gas:
- Do not try to light any appliances.
- Do not touch any electrical switches
- Do not use any phone in your building. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.
- If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
- Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other gas appliance.
Gas Shut Off
There is a shut off on the gas line at or near its connection to each item that operates on gas. In addition, there is a main shut off at the meter. These are pointed out during the Homeowner Orientation. If you suspect a gas leak, leave the home and call the gas company immediately for emergency service.
Cleaning
Be sure to turn off all of the controls before cleaning. Do not use any sharp instrument (like a knife or razor blade) to clean any surface. Never use abrasive cleaners on any surface of your appliances. The outside of your appliances can be cleaned with a non–abrasive cleaner such as baking soda sprinkled on a damp cloth or sponge. The manufacturer may have a special appliance cleaner that will clean and protect against stains. Stainless steel areas should be cleaned with a stainless steel cleaner. Do not use oven cleaner on metal trim.
